YOUR EYECARE MATTERS TO US
At Memory Opticians, we know that healthy eyes and clear vision are vital to our clients.
Every day, from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep, your eyes are working hard for you. Clear vision and healthy eyes are important for living a fulfilled life and yet, like many precious things, we can take this for granted. It’s not until we are faced with a problem that we truly understand how living in a world of blur can really get in the way.
WHY EYE EXAMS ARE IMPORTANT
Your eyes are precious. They connect you with your loved ones, enable you to enjoy the beauty of art and nature and help you to lead a full and active life both at work and at play.
There are so many reasons why a simple eye test could help you live your life without the distraction of poor vision.
-
Are you struggling to see your screen at work?
-
Do you struggle to see signposts and distant objects when driving?
-
Do you find your arms are not quite long enough to read your new novel?
-
Is your vision getting in way of your sporting performance or favourite hobby?
Whatever the reason for needing an eye examination – your eyes are in good hands with Memory Opticians.

WHAT MAKES OUR EYE EXAMINATIONS EXCELLENT
Our eye examinations don’t just check your sight, they check the health of your eyes too. A thorough eye examination is crucial to the preservation of good vision as we age. As well as diagnosing common eye problems such as inflammation, swelling and dry eyes to more serious conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts and retinal detachment, an eye examination can also reveal health problems elsewhere in your body such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol and autoimmune diseases, to name a few.
At Memory Opticians, we understand how important your eye health is to you. That’s why we take the time to understand you, your lifestyle and your visual demands fully before your eye examination. We also ensure that all our eye examinations are conducted by highly trained Optometrists from start to finish, using the latest diagnostic technology. This is why our eye examinations take longer than at most other opticians.
THE BENEFITS OF OCT
We don’t just care about your vision we care about your health too. With an OCT eye health scan, we can detect indications of numerous diseases such as diabetes, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration and much more.
OCT stands for Ocular Coherence Tomography. It is a very detailed non-contact scanner that creates an optical ultrasound-like 3D image of the inside of the eye. OCT scanning uses light waves to take cross-section images of the back of the eye (the retina). The unique way the image is formed means that for the first time we can see below the surface of the retina and view the microscopic layers beneath.

HOW IT WORKS
Capturing an OCT image is a quick and comfortable procedure. It can be carried out independently or in conjunction with your usual eye examination. This type of appointment is very useful in diagnosing a number of eye conditions, including:
-
Macular hole
-
Macular oedema
-
Central serous retinopathy
-
Diabetic retinopathy
-
Vitreous traction
-
Age-related macular degeneration
-
Glaucoma
HOW IT DIFFERS FROM RETINAL PHOTOGRAPHY?
To simplify, we tend to compare your eye to a cake. The retinal image takes a photo of the surface of the retina (the top surface of a cake) whereas the OCT looks at the layers of the retina (like cutting a slice of cake and then being able to see the various layers within, one at a time).
